With 2nd January 2018 being a public holiday in Scotland, there was a reduced rail service in operation. The 1124 Edinburgh - Tweedbank was one of those services, seen here approaching Newtongrange on the cold but sunny morning of the day in question. The train is about to cross the unique skewed and stone-lined arch no 23 of Newbattle Viaduct see image 52071. View is north along the A7, with the train less than half a mile from the Newtongrange stop.
