Holmes Summit

A mid morning Edinburgh - Milngavie service about to pass Holmes Summit, between Blackridge and Caldercruix, on 23 September 2013. The name commemorates the late Derek Holmes (1959-2010) who joined the railway as a signalman in Dundee and went on to become Network Rail Production Director and chairman of the Institution of Railway Operators. In the foreground is the eastern end of Hillend Loch, with the A89 running past on the other side of the bridge. For a close up of the summit board see image 35721.
