Signpost at the rear of the former Bathgate steam shed in 2008. Founded as Jarvis Construction in 1846, the company entered the rail maintenance sector in the mid 1990s. Following the Potters Bar derailment in 2002, in which 7 people died, Jarvis was heavily criticised, with the ORR stating their performance '...fell far short of that expected of a competent IMC'. The following year saw an end to private company-led maintenance on the railways, with all work thereafter being adminstered by the state owned Network Rail. Bathgate shed was demolished in 2009, Jarvis entered aministration in 2010.
