Closure of the West India Docks in 1980 marked the end of an era on London's already run-down Isle of Dogs. Nowadays the name Docklands conjures up images of modern office blocks and highly priced waterside accommodation. Part of this transformation involved the provision of new and improved transport links, not least the opening of the Docklands Light Railway in 1987. View over the former West India Export Dock in 2005 as a DLR service for Bank leaves Heron Quays on its 250 yard hop across the gap to Canary Wharf.
