The eastern abutment of the old steel bridge still looks over the River Douglas at Hesketh Bank in 2019. It carried the Preston to Southport line until closure in 1964 following which it was dismantled. It was built as a swing bridge but traffic on the tidal river, which leads to the Leeds Liverpool canal at Tarleton, was light and it was welded in fixed position in 1912. There are several pictures of the bridge in use at the Disused Stations website Douglas Bridge link.
