Kirkby Thore

This bridge and short piece of embankment are virtually the only remaining railway infrastructure at Kirkby Thore. The line between Appleby and Penrith closed in 1962 and the station, which was immediately to the left of this picture, was completely demolished in 1973 to make way for a realignment of the A66 trunk road. To the right the embankment has been removed to make way for a small business park to leave this small tangible reminder of the Stainmore route, seen here in October 2019.
