Friockheim Viaduct

The former Friockheim Viaduct seen looking north from Station Road on 6 April 1958. Built by the Aberdeen Railway in 1848 the structure formed part of the 'Friockheim Fork' (or Curve) linking Friockheim Junction and Glasterlaw Junction. The curve allowed trains to run direct from Arbroath to both Montrose (CR) and Aberdeen. Final closure of the curve came in 1908 with the viaduct itself eventually demolished in the 1980s.
