Cheriton Channel Tunnel Terminal

A passing shot of the Cheriton terminal area where road vehicles are now loaded onto trains was under construction in 1988 and shows the underlying geology. Even at speed, en route to Charing Cross, the distinctive colour is apparent. This is due to the occurrence of a specific mineral, Glauconite, which is abundant in these Cretaceous Period deposits colloquially known as 'Lower Greensand'.
