New Longton and Hutton station closed with the Preston to Southport line in 1964 and has been completely built over. It had originally been called Howick, later Hutton & Howick but the final name reflected the village it lies in the centre of. Immediately to the north of the platforms was a level crossing on a sharp bend in the road and the crossing keeper's cottage, now incorporated into a much larger property, is the only surviving railway feature. This view, with the site of the station behind the camera, looks along the route of the line towards Preston in January 2011.
