A pair of Seaspeed tickets for the return crossing from Portsmouth to Ryde and a pair of Island Line tickets for the journey from Ryde St. John's Road to Shanklin & return on 11 July 1969. It was an extremely hot and pleasing day, with the sand at Shanklin burning your bare feet as you walked around, but that ended when I found a £2 parking ticket on the car on return to Portsmouth. It was about the only street that didn't have 24 hour parking, no doubt to catch out ferry users, and no visible signs to indicate that it was only 3 hours. It was one of the days out, East, West & South with my girlfriend of 20 months whilst we were holidaying for two weeks in Southsea near her brother and his family. She was very forgiving of my rail visits during the trip, as we went on to be together for 50 years.
