This picture shows the former Cork Summerhill station site, (opened 1861 serving Youghal) above the Great Southern & Western Railway mainline tunnel (opened 1855), on 5th May 2019. Originally the stations, Penrose Quay and Summerhill were at right angles to each other but with the opening of Glanmire Road station in 1893 a sharply curved link was made between the two systems and the earlier stations were closed. A footbridge over the tracks into Summerhill station remains in place.
