Crouch End

View north along the ex-GNR 'Northern Heights' line from Crouch Hill bridge at Crouch End, on a snowy 2nd December 2010. The building on the left was intended to be an electrical substation for the conversion of the line into a branch of the London Underground Northern Line on which over £1 million was spent before 1939. WWII halted its progress and the works were not resumed after 1945 and the line closed instead in 1954 but stayed open for freight until 1964 and for empty stock workings until 1970. The building is now a community centre and the trackbed part of two separate sections of the Parkland Walk footpath.
