One and a half miles north west of Fauldhouse in a once intensely mined area of West Lothian stood the small village of East Benhar and its associated pit. The pit closed in 1957 and the village was subsequently abandoned. The remains of the pit stand alongside Fauldhouse Moor, where they were photographed in 2009. The brick structure is the shell of a former sub-station, while the conical waste bing beyond still shows the route of the spoil tramway that once climbed its eastern slope.
