The Clifton Suspension Bridge, seen from the Paddle Steamer PS Bristol Queen in the summer of 1964. In the woods, on the right, is Clifton Bridge No 2 Tunnel carrying the line to Portishead which closed to passengers that year but is reopening sometime in the next few years. On the left, mostly covered over by the A4 Portway road, are the remains of the line from Hotwells to Avonmouth. The visible foundation of the bridge was found to be hollow a few years ago containing several levels of brick chambers full of stalactites - tours are run occasionally.
