An extract from the 1896 6' OS map showing an area to the north of King's Cross. The main interest here for me is that Frederick Street is where Ealing Studios filmed 'The Ladykillers' in 1955 and constructed Mrs. Wilberforce's house at the end of the street. Watching the film I always wondered about the single railway track immediately behind the house, but this map shows it was the link to the GNR Goods Depot at Caledonian Road. This was reached via the turnback siding to the north and then over the Copenhagen tunnels which are also such a feature of this wonderful comedy. The station shown on the North London line is Maiden Lane, which closed in 1917. Added by Mark Bartlett. Map reproduced with permission of the National Library of Scotland. Footnote: Most of Frederick Street, and all of Caledonian Road Goods, has since disappeared under modern developments.
