Glenesk Junction

Looking south from Glenesk Junction in the summer of 2012. The Waverley route continued from here to the bridge carrying the B6392. The approaching cyclists have passed under the bridge and will follow the surfaced pathway which veers east here to a junction with the Dalkeith route, before rejoining the trackbed to cross Glenesk Viaduct behind the camera. The remains standing on the site of Glenesk Colliery are (I was once told!) from a piggery built here following closure of the line. On the right is the base of the signal that once protected the junction with the Dalkeith branch - see 30685.
