View from an Overground service from Watford Junction to Euston, passing the former Croxley Green Junction on 18th December 2019. The Rickmansworth branch passed beneath the bridge and, though electrified, was closed to passengers in 1952 and entirely in 1966. Branching off this was the short branch to Croxley Green which opened on 15th June 1912. The service was suspended on 22nd March 1996 but never reopened and closure was declared on 29th September 2003. However, for many years, the 'Croxley Link' proposal was in the pipeline and would have seen Metropolitan Line trains diverted from their 1925 terminus over a new connection to Croxley Green. The line thence to Croxley Green Junction would have then been relaid with LU trains running beneath this bridge to Watford Junction via Watford High Street and the LU Watford station closed. It was eventually given the go-ahead only to be cancelled later, thus the rather delightful Metropolitan terminus, poorly-sited for the town but in a residential catchment area, will remain open.
