Chetwynd Viaduct

Chetwynd Viaduct, Cork Bandon & South Coast Railway. This impressive relic, about 3km southwest of Cork, was designed by one of Brunel's pupils, Charles Nixon and built 1849-1851. It was seriously damaged in the Civil War in 1922 but restored and remained in use until the system closed under CIE on 1 April 1961, although it continued to be used by recovery trains until 1965. The decking was lifted around 1970 and the embankment end on the Cork side was also removed. 24th August 2019
