Crown Street Goods

This shot turned into something of a panorama of the southern approaches to Carlisle, as they stood in 1965, but I can't say it was planned as such. Walking along the road towards Upperby, I suddenly caught sight of a freight coming off the Settle & Carlisle route behind one of the last two surviving Royal Scots, number 46140 'The King's Royal Rifle Corps'. So it was just a matter of pointing the camera quickly in the direction of the locomotive before it disappeared below the bridge below the West Coast main line.
