Lowton

Lowton Junction, at the north end of the Parkside triangle, seen from half way along the curve from Newton-le-Willows Junction in February 2021. Lowton station was just beyond the junction and served both lines before closure in 1949. This chord, the short stretch of L&M to Earlestown and the link back to the WCML from Earlestown were all electrified around 1972 but it was nearly fifty years later that the other sides of the triangle and the Liverpool and Manchester route caught up.
