Cairnhill Junction

This was the site of Cairnhill Junction, Airdrie, as seen in 1997. Ahead the line ran to the Caledonian's Airdrie station and to the right was the branch to Newhouse. This was the south west junction of a triangle of lines. The recent works were to create access to lift the line to Imperial Steel Works and west to Whifflet (the opposite direction to this view). Prior to the lifting there was a buffer stop under the bridge the photograph was taken from. The trackbed is now a footpath.
