The overgrown cutting to the left was the site of Calderbank Junction, the junction between the Clarkston branch of the Ballochney Railway and its branch to the Calderbank Iron Works. When the New Monkland line opened east to Bathgate trains travelled by the line seen here before the new alignment through Airdrie station was opened. Colliertree Siding was on the right and behind the camera was the division between the Clarkston branch and the connection to the New Monkland line. Some landscaping and house building has taken place since this 1997 photograph.
