UK Railtours' excursion from King's Cross diverging from the Ashington line onto the North Blyth branch, which to the best of my knowledge has never had a passenger service, on 7th April 2018. This had travelled via the ECML to Morpeth and thence via the line through Choppington to Bedlington and on to Newsham. It then reversed to retrace its steps through Bebside and Bedlington to visit North Blyth but, alas, did not go to Ashington. The train returned direct from North Blyth to Newcastle back through Bedlington and Newsham and on through Seaton Delavel. Funding for reopening the Ashington line with stations at Northumberland Park (an interchange with the Tyne & Wear Metro), Seaton Delavel, Newsham, Bebside (to be called Blyth Bebside), Bedlington and Ashington, was given in January 2021. However, the Morpeth to Bedlington line is not included in the reopening scheme but maybe considered at a later date.
