National Railway Museum [York]

Shunter with a story. Built at Horwich in 1961, D4105, spent its first 7 years at Chester before moving to Feltham in 1968. Within 2 years it was transferred to Selhurst, where it was renumbered 09017 during 1973. Withdrawn in August 1987, it reappeared 2 months later as departmental locomotive 97806, allocated to Sudbrook Pumping Station, where it was used on the Severn Tunnel emergency train. By mid 1998 it had reverted to its former number 09017, this time sporting EWS colours. Finally, in 2011, the National Railway Museum obtained 09017 as its resident shunter at York, where it was refurbished and given a new Maroon livery. Photographed here at its stabling point within the museum in June 2013.
