Whitechapel
The spacious new concourse above the District and Hammersmith & City Lines at Whitechapel, looking from the top of the steps from the new walkway to the Overground platforms (here below those of the Underground) towards the steps and lift that lead down to a revamped entrance, on 27th August 2021. To the right, steps and lifts lead to the new island platform (on surface) used by Underground trains. The almost wholesale rebuilding of this station is in connection with its forthcoming interchange with Crossrail which will be reached via escalators when it does eventually open.
