Opened in 1852, Welbury is a former station on the Leeds Northern route between Northallerton and Teesside. The station closed to passengers in 1954 and to all traffic in 1963. Today the line is still busy, handling regular freight movements as well as TransPennine and Grand Central passenger services. The half-barrier Welbury level crossing, just off to the right, comes under the control of Low Gates box in Northallerton (see image 40007).
