Arrochar and Tarbet

Abandoned road. For much of the length of Loch Lomond two parallel roads ran up the west side, a high and a low road. The opening of the West Highland Railway was the end for the high level road north of Arrochar. Its route is occupied by the railway which crosses over it repeatedly. This is a view north along the old road, now covered by a thick moss mat. The dry stane dykes remain on either side. The West Highland is out of shot on the left and the still open low road is off to the right.
