A short distance downhill from Kelton Fell Quarry the old railway passes through the village of Kirkland on embankments and in cuttings. On the west side of the settlement this bridge abutment, and another nearby, are further visible reminders of a line that closed as long ago as 1926. Immediately beyond this bridge abutment old maps show that there was a coal depot siding serving Kirkland.
