Charles Tennant's tomb in the Glasgow Necropolis. Tennant became the sole owner St Rollox Chemical Works (of 1799) and was one of the promoters of the Garnkirk and Glasgow Railway (opened 1831). The memorial records that he died on the 1st of October 1838 at the age of 71. Interestingly his birth date is not mentioned on the monument, considered to be the 3rd of May 1768 which would have made him 70. His statue suggests a long busy man, now resting. The statue looks out to the north west taking in two of Glasgow's landmarks; the Cathedral is in the left of his view and his chemical works (and its famous chimney) were to the right.
