Twilight was approaching on 25 March 1967 when the 'Grand Tour No 1' arrived at Aviemore behind Class 24 diesels D5070 and D5127. These were deemed insufficient for the gradient up to Druimuachdar summit (The load was 18 coaches) and so a third Class 24, No D5122 was added. This trio took the Tour on to Perth, where the coaches were reunited with Black 5 No 44997 and A4 No 60009, who returned the train to its starting point of Edinburgh Waverley.
