Slateford

Slateford, looking north-east towards Edinburgh, at 12.37 on Saturday, 18th June 2022. This is the former Caledonian Railway main line that opened in 1848 to a terminus in Edinburgh at Lothian Road, replaced by Princes Street station in 1870 with Lothian Road becoming a goods depot. Slateford was added to the line in 1853, its Victorian buildings have long since been replaced by the usual ghastly bus stop style waiting shelters. Princes Street station closed on 6th September 1965 with services diverted to Waverley. The pleasant company of my friend and fellow Railscot contributor Bill Roberton was with me on this occasion.
