Tewitfield Locks
The eight locks at Tewitfield were numbered in reverse in that Lock 1 is the most northerly at the top of the flight. They were last used in 1942 and now act as weirs to drop the water supply from Killington Lake down to the navigable section of the Lancaster Canal that starts at Tewitfield. Perhaps the most amazing thing about the Lancaster Canal is that the route surveyed meant that these were the only locks between Preston and Kendal. This is Lock 7 looking up towards Lock 6. This would be a peaceful spot were it not for the M6 Motorway alongside but the flight is still an interesting location to visit.
