Eskbank

A weedkiller train on the Borders Railway heading south through Eskbank on a sunny autumn morning in September 2022, with the shadows accentuated by the deep cutting through which the train is passing. Following closure of the Waverley Route, the original cutting here had been infilled up to the level of the bridge in the background and became part of a public walkway. The subsequent decision to reopen the old route as part of the Borders Railway resulted in a long and costly re-excavation project. (See image 45288).
