This is Moss Bridge in Whittle-le-Woods, which carries Chorley Old Road over the Walton Summit Branch of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, formerly part of the southern section of the Lancaster Canal. Commercial traffic dwindled away before ceasing in the 1930s, although the canal remained intact until construction of the M61 in the 1960s when it was formally closed and for the most part filled in. This 2022 view looks west. Just beyond the bridge there was a small basin and then the canal turned northwards towards Preston.
