'M V Glenshira' passes the Puffer 'S S Kaffir' in the pound between Locks 11 and 12 of the Dunardy flight on the Crinan Canal on 13th July 1959. Fifteen years later the unfortunately named 'Kaffir' was involved in a bizarre incident in Ayr when she was stolen by the ship's engineer but ran aground just outside the harbour. 118 tons of coal were salvaged from her but the Puffer could not be saved and her wreck is still visible at Ayr today.
