London Victoria

LMS Princess Coronation Class 4-6-2 Pacific no. 6233 'Duchess of Sutherland', designed by Sir William Stanier (1876-1965) and constructed at Crewe in 1938, in platform 2 on the Chatham side of Victoria station, waiting to depart with the Railway Touring Company's excursion to Cardiff Central via Gloucester on Tuesday, 22nd November 2022. This ran in regular service until 8th February 1964 and is one of three preserved. She was on static display at Butlins, Ayr until 1971 when she moved to Bressingham Steam Museum, giving footplate rides for three years and then on static display until 1996 when acquired by the Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust. On this tour she was due to leave at 07.02 but, because of a signal workers strike at Thames Valley signal box, did not depart until 08.22 and with further delays along the way that greatly reduced the time spent in Cardiff and for those visiting Gloucester too.
