The disused Lydd Town station, on the Dungeness freight branch, mysteriously burned down around 02.00 on 8th November 2022 (as per item in issue 971 of RAIL magazine) after surviving since its closure to passengers on 6th March 1967. Several attempts were made over the fifty-five years to have the building grade listed and even though local residents have not been able to catch a train here in all that time, they are said to be devastated by its loss. It is seen here from a UK Railtours' excursion heading towards Dungeness on the afternoon of Saturday, 17th November 2018. Earlier in the day, this tour had visited the Grain freight branch across the Hoo Peninsula from Gravesend, also in Kent.
