Appleby
22 November 1980, and A4 No 4498 'Sir Nigel Gresley' has stopped at Appleby while heading the Cumbrian Mountain Express from Carlisle to Hellifield. Displayed on the station was the memorial plaque to the famous cleric and railway photographer Eric Treacy, who had died there while pursuing his favourite hobby. The plaque was quite new at that time but still there today.
