Whitebirk Power Station opened in 1921 to serve the Blackburn area. Initially it was entirely supplied by canal and this narrow boat is moored in the old unloading area, alongside the retail park that now occupies the site. Between 1942 and 1955 the plant was enlarged and another larger coal unloading area was created on the opposite side of the canal, supplied by rail as well as barges, with conveyor bridges feeding the station. Whitebirk finally closed in 1976, and no trace remains of the power station, but the canal wharves are still clearly visible. 195109 passes the scene on 22nd December 2022.
