The huge Burnley Embankment, known locally as 'The Long Straight', stretches for 1350 yards and is over 60' high in places. Construction took five years but it removed the need for locks on both sides of the valley. Roughly mid-way along the embankment is the Yorkshire St Aqueduct. This appears to have been rebuilt in the 20th Century to accommodate trams and motor vehicles below as the parapets are made from styled concrete panels. This view looks west in December 2022.
