Glasgow Green

This 1998 view of the Glasgow Green station site shows the rear elevation of the street level building on Binnie Place, the view is to the west from the Craignestock Place bridge. The '1787' and '1812' visible on the remains of the building are part of Douglas Gordon's artwork called 'Proof'. The rest of the mural read 'mute, 1787 1812 1820 1916 1922 1932'. These were dates when public speaking was banned on Glasgow Green. 1787 was the year of the Calton Weavers' Strike. 1812 Tron riot, Edinburgh. 1820 Radical War (also known as the Scottish Insurrection). 1916 Women's Peace Crusade. 1922 Hunger March, Glasgow to London. 1932 National Hunger March, Glasgow to London.
