1:25,000 series map extract showing the pre-closure railway system around Radcliffe. Running bottom left to top right is the original East Lancashire Railway line from Clifton Junction to Bury. The surviving Bury to Manchester (later Metrolink) line diverges from this at North Junction, crossing Radcliffe Viaduct over the Irwell. At Radcliffe Central the line to Bolton runs towards the top left via Bradley Junction. Radcliffe Black Lane station is at the top of the map and below that Ainsworth Road Halt is shown. Radcliffe Bridge station on the old main line is shown, with the Outwood Viaduct immediately to the south of it. The West Junction to North Junction curve completes the railway picture along with the canal, which was lock free between Bury and Bolton. Added by Mark Bartlett.
