Hillhead Quarry is on the branch from Buxton to Briggs Sidings, which serves quarries at Hindlow and Dowlow. Mothballed for some years, Hillhead is to be reopened and a rail loading point is currently being constructed. The connection to the branch has been installed, albeit hidden by the distant vegetation, and access to the siding is controlled by a three-lever mechanical ground frame released by a token machine next to the frame. This arrangement is consistent with the existing arrangement at Briggs Ground Frame further along the line and also allows a train to be 'locked' inside the quarry facility. Sleepers and rail can be seen stacked in the background in this March 2023 view, whilst the ballast has probably yet to be quarried on site.
