The Riviera here we come. The legendary SNCF 'Mistral' about to set off for the south from Paris Gare de Lyon. The locomotive was CC6503, one of the superb 125 mph SNCF CC6500 class introduced in 1969. Although these locomotives have all now been retired from regular service, they were at the time of this 1972 photograph the epitome of power and style. They were also early examples of the famous Paul Arzens 'broken nose' front-end design, still widely seen half a century later across the SNCF network.
