Greenan Siding

A box bridge is currently being installed on the A719 where it crosses the Maidens and Dunure light railway just south of Ayr. This section of line finally closed at the end of the Heads of Ayr Butlins holiday season in September 1968,and the bridge was infilled in the early 1980s to remove the weight restriction. By early April pedestrians and cyclists should be able to pass under the road along Cycle Route 7 instead of having to cross over it to get to Greenan shore and along Ayr promenade. To the right of the concrete box you can clearly see the original parapet from the lines opening in 1906. The view is looking west. (See image 63826 with the original bridge visible in the background).
