Southport's carriage sidings held a number of Class 507 and 508 EMUs in storage, and several new 777s waiting to be taken into service, on 24th May 2023. This is 777146, stabled alongside 777002 on the old east to south curve now truncated to two sidings (See image 35056 from this footbridge in 1980). A lot of equipment is carried on the carriage roofs. The 1xx sub-class are battery fitted, and have 'Batteries on Board' decals on the bodysides. They will initially work the new Headbolt Lane extension of the Kirkby line but Merseyrail has tentative plans to extend services over other non-electrified lines such as Ellesmere Port to Helsby.
