Brunico
FS Class 741 2-8-0 number 741 388 pauses at Brunico before continuing along the Val Pusteria to San Candido with a morning service from Fortezza. Although this part of the South Tyrol is Italian, German is also widely spoken - for Fortezza read Franzenfeste and San Candido, Innichen. In whatever language, it is a lovely part of the Alps, and in 1973 it was certainly a great treat to be able to see some continuing standard gauge steam operation on this beautiful line.
