The story of the Ffestiniog Railway's deviation line to get round the section that was flooded for a hydro-electric scheme after the line closed in 1946, is well-known and doesn't need repeating here. Parts of the 1842 deviation of the route are still visible as here, seen from UK Railtours' chartered special from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Caernarfon climbing towards Moelwyn Tunnel along the deviation, on 6th April 2019. The original 1836 alignment via inclines now forms the hidden shoreline in the foreground.
