Platform side view of the former Portsoy station, closed in 1968 and seen here on 15th June 2019. This opened in 1884 replacing that at the end of the harbour branch that had opened in 1859. The entire Moray coast line was 'Beechinged' on 6th May 1968, divorcing the popular seaside towns of Portsoy and Cullen and the large town of Buckie from the rail network, a serious loss with, ever since, buses to and from Elgin taking a lot longer than the trains. The loop surely offered more traffic potential than the remaining line from Elgin towards Aberdeen where, between Elgin and Huntley, only Keith station remains open.
