The Budapest Rack Railway connects a lower terminus at Varosmajor, adjacent to the Tram stop, with an upper terminus at Szechenyihegy which is an eight minute walk from the Children's Railway. It is 3.7 km long, rises 264 metres and was opened in 1874. It is standard gauge and uses a Strub rack system with the teeth on the sides of the centre rail. It used to be steam powered and in 1926 was moved to 550/600 volt electric system like the Trams of that time but now uses a single overhead 1500-volt DC system.
